Sunniva Rødland, PhD, has a wide-ranging repertoire and is internationally recognized for her distinctive work in contemporary music. She has premiered 16 solo works for harp and maintained long-term collaborations with numerous composers, often acting as a co-creator in the compositional process.
Rødland’s projects span acoustic and electronic music, video, theatre, improvisation, and installation art. In 2015, in collaboration with NOTAM, she developed a unique electric harp with one output per string, later used in live installations and spatial sound (3D audio) concerts. Her solo album Postures (Lawo Classics, 2019) received 9/10 in Harp Column and was nominated for the Opus Klassik (Deutscher Musikpreis) in 2020.
She was awarded the Norwegian State Artist Grant (2020–22) for a project focusing on climate-related challenges, which led to the founding of the ensemble Permatrio and the creation of new works for harp and electronics. Rødland earned her PhD from the Norwegian Academy of Music (2008–2012) with the artistic research project Let the Harp Sound!, exploring the role of the harp in Norwegian contemporary music.
Rødland has appeared as a soloist at major international festivals including AngelicA Festival (Bologna), Sound of Stockholm, The Dutch Harp Festival (Utrecht), The World Harp Congress (Vancouver), and Ultima (Oslo), and has performed with ensembles such as the Norwegian Wind Ensemble, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK), and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. She has recorded with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Sinfonietta, BIT20 Ensemble, and artists across genres, including Petter Wettre and Susanne Sundfør.

Sunniva Rødland, PhD, har et bredt repertoar, og er internasjonalt kjent for sine særegne utforskninger innen samtidsmusikk. Rødland har til nå urfremført 16 soloverk for harpe. Hun har hatt langvarige samarbeid med en rekke komponister, ofte som medskaper i komposisjonsprosessene. Rødland har presentert innovative prosjekter, med akustiske og elektroniske instrumenter, video, teater, improvisasjon og installasjon. I samarbeid med Notam fikk hun i 2015 bygget en unik elektrisk harpe med én utgang per streng, som senere har blitt brukt til live installasjoner og kringlydskonserter (3D). I 2019 utga Lawo Classics hennes soloinnspilling «Postures», som oppnådde 9/10 poeng i det internasjonale harpemagasinet «Harp Column». Innspillingen ble nominert til Deutscher Musikpreis, Opus Klassik 2020.

Rødland mottok Statens kunstnerstipend 2020-22 for et prosjekt med klimautfordringer som fokus, et arbeid som førte til opprettelsen av ensemblet Permatrio og nye verk for harpe og elektronikk. Rødland tok sin doktorgrad ved Norges musikkhøyskole 2008-2012, i regi av Program for kunstnerisk utviklingsarbeid, med «Let the Harp Sound!». Der utforsket hun harpens rolle i norsk samtidsmusikk, hadde flere tette komponistsamarbeid og gjorde over 40 konserter. Prosjektet ga nytt repertoar og nye innfallsvinkler til instrumentet.
Rødland har vært solist på festivaler som AngelicA Festival (Bologna), Sound of Stockholm, de Bijloke/Tête à tête (Gent), The Dutch Harp Festival (Utrecht), The World Harp Congress (Vancouver), Les signes de l’arc (Paris), Ilios og Ultima (Oslo). Hun har vært solist med blant andre Det norske blåseensemble, KORK og Trondheim symfoniorkester. I tillegg til å fokusere på sine soloprosjekter har Rødland frilanset som harpist i mange år. Siden 90-tallet har hun vært en hyppig innleid ekstramusiker i de norske orkestrene og hun har samarbeidet med ensembler og kor over hele landet.
Rødland deltar på innspillinger med orkestre og sinfoniettaer som Oslo- filharmonien, Ensemble Ernst, Oslo sinfonietta, Bit20 Ensemble. Hun har i tillegg gjort flere innspillinger med artister i andre sjangre, som jazzsaksofonisten Petter Wettre og popartisten Susanne Sundfør. Rødlands soloutgivelser er

Rødland studerte harpe med Willy Postma (Norges musikkhøyskole), Meinir Heulyn og Caryl Thomas (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama). Hun har videre tatt timer med harpister som Judy Loman og Edward Witsenburg.
